Anger Management Counselling

Therapy Cheshire works with individuals or couples to help them understand and manage their anger. Anger is an emotion and is natural and sometimes necessary.

Anger is an adaptive emotional response to experiences of hurt, injustice, fear and frustration. It creates a physical response in the body, such as a rush of adrenaline, fast breathing, increased heart rate and increased blood pressure. This physical response can lead to aggressive behaviour. The real purpose of this physical response is to help us defend ourselves if attacked, fight or flight.

Out of control anger can lead to patterns of negative behaviour which can impact on work, relationships and even your mental and physical well being.

Anger management counselling utilises both EMDR and/ or CBT (cognitive behavioural techniques) to help you :-

Anger management counselling aims to help you unlearn the negative responses you have developed. Through awareness training and behaviour modification you can change your responses to certain situations that trigger an angry response.

If your anger is causing you to become violent towards a spouse or partner an assessment will be made to establish whether anger management counselling would be appropriate for you and a referral on to a more suitable agency can be made if necessary.
